Despite the fact we’ve all “grown up” since our introduction to LEGO, the magic of building something from nothing but tiny plastic bricks remains as appealing today as it was during childhood. These days, we’re much more interested in following the instructions to build things like the Star Wars Millennium Falcon, the Taj Mahal and the set of Seinfeld than we are in dreaming up our own independent creations from a pile of loose bricks. That’s where the ingenious app Brickit comes in. After you launch the app, Brickit will scan your collection of loose, foot-crippling LEGO bricks and let you know everything you can build from your collection with step-by-step instructions just like you’d get from the manufacturer. What’s more, it will even tell you where to locate the specific bricks you need in the pile, so the only thing you have to worry about is the assembly. Sure, there are some bugs because it’s beta, object rejection isn’t all that great and errors occur, but it’s a free app that has a helluva lot of potential for anyone with a box of LEGO bricks lying around. Brickit is available for iOS right now (hit the download link below) with an Android version on the docket for the fall.
