The Fender Custom Shop has made some pretty incredible things over the years. They’ve released an amp made with wood leftover from building the U.S.S. Constitution and one made from whiskey barrels, and now Fender has built a guitar with benches from the Hollywood Bowl. What began almost a century ago as a makeshift stage grew to become one of the most iconic concert venues in Southern California, as it hosted everyone from Sinatra to Hendrix over the years. In the hands of Fender Custom Shop Master Builder Yuriy Shiskov, the original Alaskan yellow cedar bench boards will be turned into a limited number of Fender Front Row Legend Esquire guitars. Each built to order guitar includes a ’60s-style “Oval C” shaped maple neck, 7.25″ radius fingerboard and vintage frets, original-spec Broadcaster bridge pickup, and oxidized brass hardware. The bench wood used in the construction was hand-selected for character and includes the original cracks, bolt holes, scratches and a different original “seat number” to make each axe even more unique.
