While we’re all for the sentiment that everything old is new again and nostalgia is king–especially because it makes us feel less old–when it comes to turning old school video games into movies we’re not sure we’re on board. Let’s be honest here, video game movies have a TERRIBLE track record. Off the top of our heads, here’s a list of great games that had shitty movie adaptations. Final Fantasy. Sonic the Hedgehog. Tomb Raider. Warcraft. Assassin’s Creed. Uncharted. Street Fighter. Max Payne. Doom. Super Mario Bros. Mortal Kombat. Rampage. If there were any cinematic endeavors you could even consider worthwhile watching, it would be the Resident Evil films and the latest Mortal Kombat film, but definitely stay the hell away from any video game movie featuring the Rock. In any event, and for whatever reason, someone finally decided to produce a movie about the best-selling, most-timeless, and incredibly addictive video game of all time–Tetris. The story of Tetris is far crazier than they could possibly tackle in a Hollywood blockbuster (do some independent research), but based on the trailer, the upcoming film tackles all the important bits. Tetris features Taron Egerton, Miles Barrow, Rick Yune and Toby Jones among others, and will be steaming March 31st on Apple TV+
